Sub-threshold transistor noise analysis.

Thermal Noise (White Noise )

  • Saturation Region: \frac{ \bar{i_n^2} }{\Delta f} = 2|q| I_d (Forward current only)
  • Linear Region: \frac{ \bar{i_n^2} }{\Delta f} = 4|q| I_d (Forward and reverse current)
  • q is the charge on an electron, which is -1.602e-19 C

Flicker Noise

\frac{ \bar{i_n^2} }{\Delta f} = \frac{K_f'}{ WL C_{ox} } \frac{ I_d^2  }{ f }

  • Kf' is the flicker noise coefficient, a device constant. But may not be the same as the above threshold Kf
  • Note that Id is squared, because in sub-threshold Id must be very small, this makes flicker noise even smaller.
